On June 24, 2024, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released a final rule establishing a set of disincentives in CMS programs for certain health care providers that have been found to have committed information blocking by the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG). The final rule, which reflects contributions from throughout the department, implements the HHS Secretary’s authority under section 4004 of the 21st Century Cures Act (Cures Act).
