Russell Leftwich, MD is Senior Clinical Advisor for Interoperability, InterSystems Corporation and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics, Vanderbilt University. He serves on the Health Level 7 Executive Committee as Treasurer of the Board. He is founder and Co-chair of the HL7 Learning Health Systems Workgroup and a recent Co-chair of the HL7 Patient Care WG, where is one of the leads in the development of clinical resources for HL7 Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) and organizer of the HL7 FHIR Clinician Connectathon series, Clinicians on FHIR. He is current Chair of the HIMSS Interoperability Standards Advisory Task Force and Co-chair of the IHE USA Implementation Committee. Previously he served as Co-chair of the ONC HIT Standards Committee Consumer Technology WG and Co-lead of the Standards & Interoperability Framework Transitions of Care and Longitudinal Coordination of Care Initiatives. Most recently he was Chief Medical Informatics Officer for the Tennessee Office of eHealth Initiatives. Prior to that he had two decades in internal medicine practice as Clinical Assistant Professor at Vanderbilt University. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and in the sub-specialty of Clinical Informatics of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
