To promote electronic information exchange between hospitals and public health agencies, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Program includes objectives to promote electronic reporting of data regarding immunizations, emergency department visits (“syndromic surveillance”), and infectious disease laboratory results. In this brief, we describe how hospitals reported on these three public health measures during fiscal year 2014, and demonstrate the differences in measure reporting between stages 1 and 2.
