This dataset provides the proportion of developers, by market share, that have certified 2015 edition health IT modules. Market share approximations are determined through an analysis of the certified health IT products reported by participants in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program from 2011 to 2016. Approximations use the most recently reported data for each unique clinician and hospital participant. It is important to understand how to interpret these approximations. Some clinicians and hospitals report certified software from more than one unique developer. The market share percentages in this dataset, therefore, include some double counting (the percentages will, if summed together, add up above 100 percent.) The approximations convey the percent of hospitals and clinicians who use a developer’s technology, and are not to be interpreted in aggregate as the percent of all hospitals and clinicians who have access to 2015 edition certified technology.
| Data Field | Data Description |
|---|---|
| Provider Type | provider_type // Two values: eligible clinician or eligible hospital |
| Developer | developer // Certified health IT developer name |
| Provider count | provider_count // Number of clinicians or hospitals that reported the developer’s product(s) through attestation to the Medicare EHR Incentive Program |
| Market Share | mktShare // Percent of all clinicians or hospitals that report a developer |
| Estimated 2018 MIPS Clinicians | est_mips_2018 // Percent of developer’s clinician clients required to report to 2018 MIPS. Hospitals do not participate in MIPS. These values are null for eligible hospitals. |
| 2015 Edition Base Certification Status | edition2015_base_status // Proportion of all 2015 edition base definition criteria certified by the developer |
This data was compiled through an analysis of three open HHS datasets: EHR Products Used for Meaningful Use Attestation, ONC Certified Health IT Product List, and the Medicare Physician Utilization and Payment public use file. All unique clinicians and hospitals were identified using the unique NPI (clinician) and CCN (hospital) provided in the EHR Products Used for Meaningful Use Attestation data. This data also provides the current reported certified products and those products’ developers. This data was used to match against the 2015 edition CHPL data to determine what clinicians and hospitals report developers who have certified product(s) that meet the 2015 edition base definition. Furthermore, for clinicians only, all unique NPIs were matched to the Medicare Physician Utilization and Payment public use file to determine the number of unique beneficiaries and allowed charges for each clinician. This data was used to determine individual MIPS exemptions for these clinicians. All this data was then aggregated at the unique provider and developer level.
