The Medicare & Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs provide incentives to eligible ambulatory and inpatient providers to adopt electronic health records. This dataset provides the counts of health care providers that have reported a developer’s product through participation in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. The data are provided beginning in 2011. This dataset enables the tracking of trends in the adoption of healthIT by developer and by both office-based health care providers and non-federal acute-care hospitals. Filter the data by Program Year to get the most recent counts by health care provider type. The most recent data is available through the 2016 Program Year.

developerHealth IT Developer // The company name of the health IT developer reported by providers who attested to meaningful use through the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.
provider_typeHealth Care Provider Type // The provider is either an office-based health care professional (professional), or a non-federal acute-care hospital (hospital).
program_yearProgram Year // Medicare EHR Incentive Program Year. The program has completed six program years: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The totals are cumulative through each program year.

Self-developed products are not developed for commercial use; they are developed for the use of the hospital, health system or physician practice for only their use. Commercial products are all other products that are developed and marketed to the public.

The data summarized in this dataset is self reported by health care providers participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive program. It is summarized from the ONC open dataset, EHR Products Used for Meaningful Use Attestation. Each year eligible providers attest to the meaningful use program. The totals for each developer in each program year reflect all current attestations. Any increase or decrease in totals reflect an increase or decrease in the number of providers who report that developer’s product(s). Totals are further segmented by certification edition. Certification edition information for products is obtained from the ONC Certified Health IT Product List (CHPL).
