Advancing Kidney Data Standards and Interoperability: From Discovery to Action

Join HHS, the American Society of Nephrology, and leaders from across the kidney care community in Washington, DC, on September 10 for a two-part event featuring the winners of the HHS KidneyX Empower Prize Challenge and focusing on turning the insights gathered through our kidney data interoperability webinar series into action.

In the morning, we’ll kick things off by featuring the winners of the KidneyX EMPOWER Challenge. Then, in the afternoon, we’ll conclude the Kidney Data Discovery Workshop series with in-person plenary and breakout sessions. (Only the morning winners showcase will be livestreamed.)

Building on discussions focused on nephrology, dialysis, kidney donation, and transplantation, this interactive workshop will bring stakeholders together to review the most important data exchange challenges identified, prioritize opportunities for improvement, and explore practical steps the community can take to address them. Together, we’ll consider what can be accomplished in the near term, what requires longer-term standards and infrastructure development, and how federal, clinical, patient, standards, and industry partners can contribute to the path forward.

• What we heard: Key findings and priority gaps identified through the webinar series
• Where should we focus? Prioritizing the kidney data interoperability challenges with the greatest potential impact
• What can we build on today? Exploring existing standards, infrastructure, and initiatives that can help address identified needs
• From gaps to solutions: Identifying potential standards, policy, technology, and implementation actions
• Building the roadmap: Developing near- and longer-term priorities for advancing kidney data standards and interoperability

Help shape the path forward. This working session is an opportunity to move from identifying challenges to defining actionable priorities for a more connected kidney health and transplant data ecosystem.
