The Medicare & Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs provide incentives to eligible ambulatory and inpatient providers to adopt electronic health records. This dataset provides the counts of health care providers that have reported a developer’s product through participation in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. The data are provided beginning in 2011. This dataset enables the tracking of trends in the adoption of healthIT by developer and by both office-based health care providers and non-federal acute-care hospitals. Filter the data by Program Year to get the most recent counts by health care provider type. The most recent data is available through the 2016 Program Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data Field<\/th>Data Description<\/th><\/tr><\/thead>
developer<\/th>Health IT Developer \/\/ The company name of the health IT developer reported by providers who attested to meaningful use through the Medicare EHR Incentive Program.<\/td><\/tr>
provider_type<\/th>Health Care Provider Type \/\/ The provider is either an office-based health care professional (professional), or a non-federal acute-care hospital (hospital).<\/td><\/tr>
program_year<\/th>Program Year \/\/ Medicare EHR Incentive Program Year. The program has completed six program years: 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. The totals are cumulative through each program year.<\/td><\/tr>
tot_provs_report_developer<\/th>Total Health Care Providers Reporting the Health IT Developer \/\/ Number of health care providers (within the “Health Care Provider Type” category and as of the “Program Year”) that report the health IT developer.<\/td><\/tr>
tot_provs_report_2015_edition<\/th>Total Health Care Providers Reporting a 2015 Edition Product from the Health IT Developer \/\/ Number of health care providers (within the “Health Care Provider Type” category and as of the “Program Year”) that report a 2015 Edition product from the health IT developer.<\/td><\/tr>
tot_provs_report_2014_edition<\/th>Total Health Care Providers Reporting a 2014 Edition Product from the Health IT Developer \/\/ Number of health care providers (within the “Health Care Provider Type” category and as of the “Program Year”) that report a 2014 Edition product from the health IT developer.<\/td><\/tr>
tot_provs_report_2011_edition<\/th>Total Health Care Providers Reporting a 2011 Edition Product from the Health IT Developer \/\/ Number of health care providers (within the “Health Care Provider Type” category and as of the “Program Year”) that report a 2011 Edition product from the health IT developer.<\/td><\/tr>
product_type<\/th>Product Type \/\/ Either commercial or self-developed. Self-developed products are not developed for commercial use; they are developed for the use of the hospital, health system or physician practice for only their use.
