Standards Six Standards Advance as Part of SVAP 2023

ONC has now published the Approved Standards for 2023 (2023 SVAP standards) as part of ONC’s annual Standards Version Advancement Process (SVAP). The SVAP is designed to make the ONC Health IT Certification Program (the Program) responsive to industry needs and better aligned with standards version advancement. The SVAP helps expedite the use of newer versions of standards under the Program and improves the ability of health IT developers to provide relevant, timely, and innovative solutions to their clients.

ASTP Funded Projects, Standards LEAPing at the Opportunity to Modernize Clinical Registries

In 2020, the Chesapeake Regional Information System for our Patients (CRISP) and the American College of Cardiology (ACC) were awarded funding through ONC’s Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health IT program. The award aimed to address one of a few special areas of interest, Advancing Registry Infrastructure for a Modern API-based Health IT Ecosystem.

In a recent study in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA), we leveraged data from the 2020 American Hospital Association (AHA) Information Technology Supplement gathered from April-June 2021, shortly after the initial applicability date of the information blocking regulations (April 5, 2021). We found that 42% of hospitals perceived that at least one type of information blocking “actor” (health care provider, health information network/health information exchange, or health IT developer of certified health IT) engaged in practices that may constitute information blocking.

Interoperability ONC Publishes USCDI+ Quality Data Element List to Support CMS Digital Quality Measurement Modernization Initiative and Overall Quality Reporting

ONC recently released the draft USCDI+ Quality data element list for public comment on the eCQI Resource Center website. This release provides an initial, high-level picture of the USCDI+ initiative in action. It is a harmonized set of data elements for quality measurement that could be used to support measurement and reporting across a wide number of quality programs.
