More than 1,200 grantees, stakeholders, and other members of the public came together December 12 at the 2012 ONC Annual Meeting to discuss the successes, challenges and impacts of the wide-spread health information technology (health IT) adoption to improve care. This year’s theme, “The Meaningful Foundation for the Future of Healthcare,” evoked how meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) is enabling providers to thrive under new payment and delivery systems.

ONC recently had the opportunity to take part in one of the largest conferences for consumer organizations—AARP’s annual “Life @ 50+,” which hosted more than 20,000 twenty-thousand AARP members in New Orleans, LA. As you may know, AARP represents one of the fastest growing demographics in America— our 50+ population. AARP helps people 50+ have independence, choice, and control of their lives in ways that are beneficial to themselves and society as a whole.
The convention center was packed with older adults from every corner of the country who traversed the halls to learn about myriad topics: travel and leisure;

From February 20 through 24, 2012, a contingent of staff members of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) set off for Las Vegas to take part in the Health Information and Management Systems Society’s (HIMSS) 2012 annual conference. This year’s meeting was the largest health IT conference ever, bringing together more than 37,000 participants from all over the world.
