ONC Launches Patient Matching Initiative

As part of our ongoing effort to improve patient matching across disparate systems, we are beginning a collaborative project to help identify the common denominators and best practices being used by private sector health care delivery systems and Federal agencies. By identifying and recommending standardization of the basic attributes most commonly used for patient matching, we are looking to improve patient safety, care coordination and efficiency.

The State HIE Program Policy Office and the Regional Extension Center Program are excited to report that the full suite of five Interoperability Training Modules to support the attainment of Stage 2 Meaningful Use measures is now available at HealthIT.gov. Designed for ONC grantees, providers and implementers, these five modules help guide stakeholders from the elementary level of EHR interoperability all the way to how the technical details of the process are designed and to meeting Stage 2 MU data exchange requirements.

This is a part of one of the ONC Health Information Exchange (HIE) team’s goals – to provide support and direction to grantees. Recently, ONC released comprehensive interoperability training modules that are geared toward multiple stakeholder audiences and provide guidance from the elementary level to detailed technical guidance for experts involved in implementation.

Building and operating exchange capacity outside corporate structures has historically relied almost solely on federal, state and private grant dollars, all aimed at improving health care delivery outcomes and efficiency in the United States.
