We are pleased to announce the publication of the Approved Standards for 2022 for our annual Standards Version Advancement Process (SVAP). The SVAP is designed to make ONC’s Certification program responsive to industry needs by allowing for better alignment to industry efforts for standards advancement, removing barriers for standards development and version updates, and improving the ability for health IT developers to provide relevant, timely, and innovative solutions to their clients.

As part of ONC’s ongoing charge to coordinate across federal and industry stakeholders, we determined it was necessary to adjust our Standards Version Advancement Process (SVAP) timeline. Although it may seem like this process has been around for a while, it’s still brand new and we’ve been looking at ways to optimize how the process aligns with other standards development work in the community. The changes we’ve made will help ensure timely publication of implementation specifications central to our cadence for new versions of USCDI.

Today, ONC announced the latest awards under its Leading Edge Acceleration Projects (LEAP) in Health Information Technology (Health IT) funding opportunity, which supports innovation to address emerging challenges and advance the development and use of interoperable health IT. These projects tackle creation of new standards, methods, and tools, such as application programing interfaces (APIs) and mobile applications (apps), to improve care delivery and advance research capabilities.
