{"id":4298,"date":"2013-03-01T09:28:37","date_gmt":"2013-03-01T14:28:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/buzz-blog\/?p=4298"},"modified":"2025-07-15T15:28:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T15:28:56","slug":"state-hie-program-policy-office-releases-tactical-issue-briefs-sustainability-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/blog\/interoperability\/state-hie-program-policy-office-releases-tactical-issue-briefs-sustainability-building\/","title":{"rendered":"State HIE Program Policy Office Releases Tactical Issue Briefs on Sustainability Building"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Health Information Exchange (HIE) has rapidly developed across the United States over the past three years but there is an elusive word attached to its future:&nbsp; Sustainability.&nbsp; Building and operating exchange capacity outside corporate structures has historically relied almost solely on federal, state and private grant dollars, all aimed at improving health care delivery outcomes and efficiency in the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-developing-hie-sustainability\"><strong>Developing HIE Sustainability<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we find ourselves in the final year of the State HIE Program and recognize the imperative to assist our grantees and stakeholders in the quest to develop business services and practices that will ensure HIE sustainability.&nbsp; Some time ago ONC began discussing the modular development of services that provide high value and leverage the investment that has been made with federal HITECH funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tactical-issue-briefs-now-available\"><strong>Tactical Issue Briefs Now Available<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Through a contract with Audacious Inquiry, we are now posting three tactical issue briefs outlining modular services that can be used by organizations to help sustain the State HIE efforts that were begun through the HITECH funding.
