{"id":4254,"date":"2013-02-25T15:06:49","date_gmt":"2013-02-25T20:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.healthit.gov\/buzz-blog\/?p=4254"},"modified":"2025-07-15T15:31:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T15:31:21","slug":"meaningful-stage-2-interoperability-criteria-training","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/blog\/interoperability\/meaningful-stage-2-interoperability-criteria-training\/","title":{"rendered":"Meaningful Use Stage 2 Interoperability Criteria Training Course"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-online-interoperability-criteria-training-course-is-now-live\">Online Interoperability Criteria Training Course is Now Live<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The State HIE Program Policy Office and the Regional Extension Center Program recently issued <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Interoperability Basics<\/span><\/strong>, a 75-minute <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/health-it-basics\/interoperability-basics-training-course\">online training course<\/a> offering in-depth information to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>define the Meaningful Use Stage 2 data exchange requirements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>explain the necessary interoperability building blocks,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>outline the path to meeting the Stage 2 criteria, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>highlight the effect of health data exchange on specific categories of care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Designed for ONC grantees, providers and implementers, this is the first of five modules that will be released to help inform the process of meeting the Meaningful Stage 2 interoperability data exchange requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The value of any technical product or service is greatly enhanced by interoperability with other products and services that give users more options and benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s a long sentence but the concept is simple\u2026and critical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interoperability = enhanced value for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, many factors influence technical interoperability and as we all know, none more than competitiveness.&nbsp; This has been true for electronic health record systems and health data in our country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having distinctly non-compatible systems has been the hallmark of health information technology in our past, denying patients and providers the full array of benefits that truly interoperable health information exchange makes possible.&nbsp; That is now changing through Meaningful Use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-upcoming-interoperability-trainings\">Upcoming Interoperability Trainings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the coming weeks, we will release four additional modules that cover the Meaningful Use Stage 2 interoperability data exchange criteria including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Transitions of care between care providers and care venues<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>Lab interoperability between hospitals and ambulatory providers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
