In this case, we at the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) through the hard work of our Office of the Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (OCAIO) are pleased to let you know that HHS\u2019 2024<a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/artificial-intelligence\/hhs-ai-use-case-inventory\/\"> AI Use Case Inventory is available for review<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This artificial intelligence (AI) use case publication requirement was first initiated by President Trump through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2020\/12\/08\/2020-27065\/promoting-the-use-of-trustworthy-artificial-intelligence-in-the-federal-government\">Executive Order 13960<\/a> \u201cPromoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government\u201d and further enhanced by President Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2023\/11\/01\/2023-24283\/safe-secure-and-trustworthy-development-and-use-of-artificial-intelligence\">Executive Order 14110<\/a> &#8220;Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence\u201d and its implementing Office of Management and Budget (OMB) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/omb\/information-for-agencies\/memoranda\/\">Memoranda M-24-10<\/a> \u201cAdvancing Governance, Innovation, and Risk Management for Agency Use of Artificial Intelligence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are three quick points about the 2024 inventory. But first, a big thank you to our colleagues across HHS who made this process possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-1-spoiler-alert-hhs-has-more-ai-use-cases-than-last-year\"><strong>1) Spoiler alert! HHS has more AI use cases than last year.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In comparison to our 2023 AI use case inventory, which included 163 use cases, the 2024 inventory now includes 271, representing a 66% increase. It\u2019s important to keep in mind that use cases come in various sizes and are at various development stages. Out of the 271 use cases, 59 are \u201cInitiated,\u201d 57 are in \u201cAcquisition and\/or Development,\u201d 35 are in \u201cImplementation and Assessment,\u201d 104 are in \u201cOperation and Maintenance,\u201d and 16 are \u201cRetired.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-2-new-use-case-information-is-now-available\"><strong>2) New use case information is now available.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2024 AI use case inventory includes a range of additional information beyond just use case summaries. It includes information on, data, IT infrastructure, internal governance, and much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\" id=\"h-3-there-s-more-to-come\"><strong>3) There\u2019s more to come. <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now with the 2024 AI use case inventory release in our rear-view mirror, we have already started our planning for the 2025 inventory and improvements. We will also be using this curated list to engage our sister agencies and execute additional ongoing responsibilities included in M-24-10, including working with them, where applicable and appropriate, to share their AI code, models, and data.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s that time of the year when we all close out annual processes.
