Required by the 21<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;Century Cures Act, the HITAC has been operational since 2018 and represents a wide range of experts in health IT who inform ONC\u2019s policies and programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The HITAC recommends policies, standards, implementation specifications, and certification criteria to the national coordinator across four target areas: interoperability, privacy and security, patient access to information, and use of technologies that support public health.&nbsp; The HITAC is also considering the <em>design and use of technologies that advance health equity<\/em> as a new target area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-hitac-had-a-productive-2022\"><strong>The HITAC had a Productive 2022! <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, the HITAC held 10 full committee meetings including a <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/buzz-blog\/health-information-technology-advisory-committee\/key-themes-from-hitac-hearing-on-health-equity-by-design\">Health Equity by Design Hearing<\/a>, launched five subcommittees and held 56 subcommittee meetings, and issued 165 recommendations. &nbsp;This includes recommendations for assessing the specific functions supported by public health data systems that would benefit from further standardization and potential certification, as well as recommendations from the e-Prior Authorization RFI task force. We also said goodbye to seven long-standing members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Check out this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/hitac\/health-information-technology-advisory-committee-hitac-history\">HITAC infographic<\/a>&nbsp;for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-s-new-for-the-hitac-in-2023\"><strong>What\u2019s New for the HITAC in 2023<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The HITAC will be busy again in 2023! So far, we\u2019ve welcomed eight new members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/shila-blend\/\">Shila Blend<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/sarah-desilvey\/\">Sarah DeSilvey<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/galvin\/\">Hannah Galvin<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/bryant-thomas-karras\/\">Bryant Thomas Karras<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/mccollister\/\">Anna McCollister<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/mcgraw-0\/\">Deven McGraw<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/kikelomo-oshunkentan\/\">Kikelomo Adedayo Oshunkentan<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/rajan\/\">Naresh Sundar Rajan <\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/medell-briggs-malonson\/\">Medell Briggs-Malonson<\/a> was selected to serve as co-chair along with <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/member\/miri\/\">Aaron Miri<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, we\u2019ve got several HITAC subcommittees teed up for this year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Interoperability Standards Workgroup<\/strong> is charged with evaluating and providing recommendations on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/isa\/united-states-core-data-interoperability-uscdi#draft-uscdi-v4\">Draft USCDI Version<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>ONC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) Task Force <\/strong>will convene during the public comment period of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reginfo.gov\/public\/do\/eAgendaViewRule?pubId=202210&amp;RIN=0955-AA03\">NPRM<\/a> and will provide subsequent recommendations to the HITAC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Later this year, we anticipate engaging a new <strong>Task Force<\/strong> to review and provide recommendations related to <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/2022-11-10_HITAC_2023_Planning_508.pdf\"><strong>Pharmacy Interoperability<\/strong><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We are thankful to have an esteemed group of passionate members who volunteer their time and efforts to help advance the adoption of health IT and the promotion of nationwide, standards-based health information exchange to improve health and healthcare for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-you-get-involved\"><strong>How Can You Get Involved?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Glad you asked!
