{"id":19196,"date":"2022-01-27T09:39:49","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T14:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/healthit-gov.go-vip.net\/buzz-blog\/?p=19196"},"modified":"2026-01-17T21:36:21","modified_gmt":"2026-01-17T21:36:21","slug":"calling-all-beta-testers-new-opportunity-to-help-onc-update-the-inferno-test-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/blog\/insights-updates\/calling-all-beta-testers-new-opportunity-to-help-onc-update-the-inferno-test-tool\/","title":{"rendered":"Calling all Beta Testers: New Opportunity to help ONC Update the Inferno Test Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Beginning March 2022, Inferno, ONC\u2019s test tool for <a href=\"https:\/\/inferno.healthit.gov\/\">the \u201cstandardized API for patient and population services<\/a>\u201d certification criterion, will support beta testing for the Health Level Seven (HL7\u00ae) Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR\u00ae) US Core Implementation Guide (IG) 4.0.0. This new version is expected to include several enhancements from version 3.1.1 and we\u2019re looking for early feedback from health IT developers who are interested in using the new version in the future as part of Inferno testing. We\u2019d also note, the US Core IG 4.0.0 is currently under consideration for the 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/isa\/standards-version-advancement-process\">Standards Version Advancement Process (SVAP)<\/a>, and we encourage public feedback on whether ONC should approve the 4.0.0 version for use in ONC\u2019s Health IT Certification Program (you can comment via the SVAP link above).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since adopting HL7\u00ae FHIR\u00ae Release 4.0.1 and the FHIR US Core Implementation Guide (IG) STU 3.1.0 in the May 2020 ONC Cures Act Final Rule, ONC has worked closely with the health IT developer community to ensure that Inferno correctly reflects the US Core IG. For example, we updated Inferno to test against the US Core version 3.1.1 IG as referenced in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2020\/12\/04\/2020-26666\/information-blocking-and-the-onc-health-it-certification-program-extension-of-compliance-dates-and\">December 2020 Interim Final Rule<\/a> and updated the API <a href=\"https:\/\/healthit.gov\/test-method\/standardized-api-for-patient-and-population-services-acb-atl\/\">Certification Companion Guide to provide clarifications<\/a> for 170.315(g)(10), which are a direct result of Inferno testing feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process to create and refine the US Core IG is well-established and supported by industry. Much of what we\u2019ve learned through implementing US Core version 3.1.1 in Inferno has been instrumental to the expedited development of US Core IG <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hl7.org\/fhir\/us\/core\/\">version 4.0.0<\/a> and the enhancements it includes. This kind of iteration and feedback loop between implementers and standards developers is a feature of FHIR as well as our testing approach, not a bug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We expect that this beta testing will inform how Inferno tests using US Core IG version 4.0.0. We recognize that US Core IG version 4.0.0 is an important steppingstone from the current 3.1.1 IG to future IGs.
